AARP has been active internationally since its founding, serving as a premier international source of information, exchange, and advocacy on issues affecting older persons worldwide. This is accomplished through global outreach and exchange, worldwide partnership and coalition building, expert knowledge and data source development, and international advocacy.
Through its International Affairs Department, AARP established and maintains the "Partnership for an Aging Society," a growing, informal network of over 3,000 governmental and nongovernmental organizations created to exchange ideas and cooperate on plans, communications, issues and international observances related to aging concerns. Through the Partnership, much is learned about the state of aging in specific countries, and concerns, ideas, suggestions, and best practices are shared for mutual benefit.
